Ejura Killing: Akufo-Addo must intervene now; trust in security agencies lost – Gyampo
A lecturer at the University of Ghana Political Science Department Prof. Ransford Gyampo has indicated that the President of Ghana should at this point intervene in the issues ongoing at Ejura in the Ashanti region.
According to him, currently, the people in that part of the country have lost trust in the security services and that the President’s intervention and assurances during this period will help de escalate the rage in the area.
Gyampo made this known in a post shared on his Facebook page on the rising issues at Ejura in the Ashanti region.
“The President may have to personally intervene to give the needed assurances, bring peace and finality to this impasse. The security agencies have lost credibility in the sight of the agitators and demonstrators.”
He noted that the near-docility of Ghana’s Peace Council in the last four years will make it difficult for it to intervene in such issues and therefore urged the President to himself intervene to bring back trust into the country.
“The near-docility of our Peace Council has also created a certain legitimacy deficit that may make the Council ineffective in intervening. Given these challenges, the President’s personal intervention may be helpful and this must be done in a timeous manner.”
