Retire and go into the ‘background’ – Kofi Ofosu to ‘very old’ Board Chairs still at post
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the Accra Digital Center Kofi Ofosu Nkansah is calling persons who are 80-years and above but still serving as heads of various boards of state institutions to abdicate their positions.
He is advocating that these persons should rather take up advisory roles rather staying glued to such positions despite the fact that age has caught up well with them and therefore cannot be vibrant as they used to be.
The man who touts himself as the President of New Patriotic Party (NPP) foot soldiers in Ghana in a post of Facebook indicated this if accepted should be applicable to those who have served in such positions in the last four years and still counting.
His argument is that those who are currently retiring as CEOs, Deputy CEOs and others could find spaces to also serve in those capacities since it is not a preserve of only a single group of persons.
He wrote “Appeal from Foot soldiers to our respected elderly Patriots If you are close to 80 years or above for example and you have served as Board Chair for the last 4 years, I think you should graduate to Regional or National Council of elders to serve our Party and create space for those who are also retiring as CEOs to graduate to become Board Chairs.
This will create more space at CEOs, Deputy CEOs, and other Senior Management levels for younger Ghanaians to fill.
We will all grow one day, but old age also has a lot of uses, fortunately. The elderly will still be very much needed backstage to advise the young.
