2020 Polls: Legon survey projecting 51.7% win for Akufo-Addo not Scientific – Lecturer

Dr. Samuel Adu-Gyamfi, a lecturer at the Political Science Department of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology(KNUST) has asserted that the University of Ghana (UG) Political Science Department survey on the December 7 general elections is not scientific.

The result of a poll conducted by the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana predicted that the NPP is likely to win the 2020 polls.

The research, which was released on November 26, spanned 100 constituencies purposefully selected 16 regions with 11,949 respondents out of the targeted 12,000 in a random sampling manner.

According to the survey, 51.7% of the respondents said they will vote for President Akufo-Addo while 40.4% opted for the Presidential candidate of the NDC, John Mahama.

The pollsters have attached a 99 percent certainty to their polls, indicating that it reflects the outcome of the 2020 general elections.

Dr Samuel Adu Gyamfi speaking on Kumasi based Abusua Fm’s Morning Show hosted by Kwadwo Marfo and monitored by MyNwsGh.com said political polls and surveys are to sway voters and their thinking.

“Sometimes I get disturbed when polls and surveys come out few weeks to an elections it doesn’t matter where the surveys and polls are coming from but it is not scientific. Political Polls and surveys which come out few weeks to an elections are just to make voters confused” Dr Adu Gyamfi said.

“Out of the 17 million in the voters register, how many voters did they ask for their submission? They can’t ask 1 million voters about their opinion so it will never be a proper representation. Out the 16 regions, how many regions did they visit” he asked.
