Amid George Floyd protests, Target has decided to temporarily close a reported 175 locations nationwide, including Chicago, Atlanta, Los Angeles, and Minneapolis.

According to a statement,”We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing communities across the country. At this time, we have made the decision to close a number of our stores. We anticipate most stores will be closed temporarily,” read a written statement announcing the closures. “Our focus will remain on our team members’ safety and helping our community heal.” It’s also reported that employees will receive up to 14 days pay and are allowed to work at other stores. This comes after Target stores were looted, in response to the tragic death of George Floyd.

As previously reported, Derek Chauvin has been arrested and charged for the death of George Floyd. This comes after nights of protests in Minneapolis. While some were peaceful, others did include looting and burning of 3 police precincts. At the moment, it’s unclear if the other officers will be charged for the death of George Floyd but they have been fired.

As you know, George Floyd died, during an arrest, on Monday. A 17-year-old filmed the incident and posted the video, in which it went viral.
