Restriction on political activities eased but political rallies not allowed

The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo says political activities except rallies can take place in the country.

This was announced as part of the various measures put in place to ease the various restrictions put in place to fight the deadly COVID-19.

The President in his speech said the decision was reached after a consensus was made through cross sector stakeholder consultation.

He added that the various measures to be put in place to ease the various restrictions will be implemented in phases.

“Conferences, workshops, weddings, and political activities, except rallies, can now take
place, but with limited numbers not exceeding one hundred (100) persons present, with the appropriate social distancing and hygiene protocols.”

This ease will pave way for the New Patriotic Party and other political parties to elect their National officials, Parliamentary and presidential candidates.

The National Democratic Congress can now have the opportunity of unveiling a running mate for the 2020 election; a name that has been expected by every Ghanaian as the 2020 elections draws closer.

Meanwhile, “constitutional and statutory bodies such as the Electoral Commission, the National Commission for Civic Education and the National Identification Authority, whose activities were
exempted from the outset from these restrictions, must conduct their activities in accordance with social distancing and the necessary hygiene and safety protocols”.

Although, the President has increased the number of people who can attend a private burial from 25 to 100 persons.

“Private burials, now with a maximum of one hundred (100) persons, can continue to be performed.”
