Quality of debate in Parliament has dwindled – Kennedy Agyapong

Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong says the quality of debates in Parliament has dwindled drastically as compared to when he entered Parliament some 20 years ago, MyNewsGh.com can report.

According to him, in his early days in Parliament, the seniors he met were extraordinarily smart people whose arguments were very solid because they had in-depth knowledge and experience in diverse fields so their arguments made Parliament a place to be.

“When I entered Parliament, we had seniors who were very solid people and their line of debates were exceptional. We had people like Paapa Owusu Ankomah, the current Speaker of Parliament, Mike Ocquaye, John Mahama, Bagbin and others on the other side. All these people were solid guys with in-depth knowledge and experience,” Kennedy Agyapong told Happy FM in an interview monitored by MyNewsGh.com.

He blamed the dwindling quality of debates in Parliament on inexperience because Parliament has seen very young and new entrants.

The Assin Central lawmaker noted that with time, things will get better because the young Members of Parliament will build experience over the years to make Parliament a place to be.
