AUDIO: Fake Mallams, Magicians on TV still in full operation – NMC

The National Media Commission(NMC) has denied media reports suggesting it has banned all mallams and magicians from operating on Television and Radio Stations

There were reports from a section of Ghanaian media that suggested the National Media Commission had banned television stations from airing content from Mallams and Magicians who claim to be doubling money for people.

The reports suggested that the NMC was acting on the orders of the President of Ghana after a letter was written to it to check such foul content but the Chairman of the NMC Yaw Boadu Ayeboafo disclosed on Dadi Fm.

“We have not met anywhere to decide that we have banned fake Mallams on Magicians on TV. As far as I am concerned, we have not made such a decision and it is one of the fake news we have been complaining”, he added

Meanwhile, a statement sighted by MyNewsGh.com from the NMC has denied taking such an action. The statement describes the various reports as fake news and calls on journalists to cross-check their facts to avoid such unprofessionalism in the future.

It said that claims that the NMC was working on the orders of the President makes the reports false because that would have been against the remit of the constitution.

Meanwhile, the Information Minister has said in an interview with Accra-based Peace FM that his office has written to the NMC and the Bank of Ghana to clamp down on people who double money on live TV and other mallams whose contents are allowed to be aired on National Television.
