Shooter Killed After At Least 5 People Are Fatally Shot, And 21 Are Injured In West Texas
Earlier we reported about a shooter being at large in a hijacked mail truck in Texas. According to the Odessa Police Department, the shooter had been “shooting at random people,” causing multiple gunshot victims.
According to CNN, at least five people were killed and 21 people were injured as a result of the shooting. Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke announced that the shooter was later killed.
The suspect was reportedly driving a vehicle at one point, and later ditched the car and hijacked a United States Postal Service mail truck. Officers were able to make contact with the suspect the Cinergy movie theater. The suspect exchanged gunfire with officials before being shot and killed.
A name and motive for the shooting were not released, but the suspect was identified as white and in his 30’s.
Three law enforcement were injured, one from the Department of Public Safety, another officer from the Midland Police Department and another from the Odessa Police Department.
Jerry Morales, the Mayor of Midland told the outlet that the Public Safety officer pulled over the vehicle on the interstate. “That’s when he shot the officer and then took off and started shooting randomly. Everything happened after that,” said Morales.
If you all remember it was only four weeks ago where another shooting took place in Texas. A mass shooting occurred after someone killed and injured multiple people at a Walmart in El Paso, TX. Less than 24 hours after that shooting, another shooting occurred in Dayton, OH where multiple injuries and fatalities occurred.
