Give small-scale and illegal miners practical training and not theory – Baba Jamal
A former Member of Parliament for the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region, Baba Jamal says the fight against illegal mining in the country will be a mirage if practical training is not given to those who are engaged in the practice.
According to him, the devastating effects of the illegal mining and small-scale mining will continue to impact the country negatively if efforts aimed at ameliorating the situation are not doubled.
Speaking on Accra based Adom Television and monitored by MyNewsGh.com, Mr. Jamal described as fruitless, government’s move to train small-scale miners on safe ways of mining in the country.
He explained that the approach adopted by the government in the training which is theoretical in nature will not save the situation.
“They need to take the trainers to the field and mining site to take the miners through the training practically. That will be much more effective than gathering them in a lecture hall and giving them theoretical training” he said.
Mr. Jamal wants the government to tackle the issue of small-scale and illegal mining holistically in order to find a lasting solution to the problem.
