EPL Match Day 14 wrap-up

Mohamed Salah came from the bench to bag a brace

Match Day 14 in the English Premier League presented us with last gasp wins, close victories and even a rare win for a team on a steep decline.

After Tuesday’s entertaining games, Wednesday treated us to 19 goals, four of which came at the Goodison Park, even when Everton have not kick started under Sam Alladyce yet.

Wayne Rooney produced something of a rare sight in recent seasons, grabbing a hat-trick as Everton thrashed a hapless West Ham 4-0. The Hammers remain rooted in the bottom three this season with their eighth loss.

Arsenal also produced some entertaining display at the Emirates last night hitting five past Huddersfield. It marked the first time Huddersfield concede five goals in the top flight this season. Liverpool were not to be left out of the match day high scoring, as Sadio Mane scored the Reds first goal in the 17th minute. But he was robbed of the hero tag when red-hot Mohamed Salah was introduced in the second half. The leading scorer grabbed two goals late in the game to take him to 12 this campaign.

But while these top clubs were scoring for fun, Premier League champions Chelsea and current leaders Manchester City were struggling to beat Swansea City and Southampton respectively at home. It took a header from Antonio Rudiger and a last-gasp strike from Raheem Sterling to seal the win for the title contenders.

The win means Manchester City maintain their comfortable eight-point gap at the top of the table with 40 points after 14 games. Chelsea are still third with 29 points, three points off second-placed Man United.

Two points separate fourth-placed Arsenal, 28, and Liverpool, 26, who are fifth on the standings.
