Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTN Ghana Limited, Ebenezer Asante, has urged owners of newspapers in the country to consider digitizing the articles as a way of creating additional source of revenues.
According to him, much as the introduction of digital technologies appear to be a threat to the survival of traditional media outlets such as newspapers, it also presents opportunity for newspaper publishing houses who had gained credibility, trustworthiness and accuracy to make extra revenue by making their contents available for readers to subscribe to them.
He made the call at an evening lecture organized by MTN in partnership with the Private Newspaper Publishers Association of Ghana (PRINPAG) on media digitization.
The essence of the lecture, which coincided with the launch of a code of ethics for PRINPGAG, was to pave way for young journalists to stay abreast with the digital space.
Mr. Asante explained that there was a lot of shift in the media landscape with a lot of media consumers accessing news on their phone, indicating that that brought along an opportunity for newspaper publishers to partner telecommunication companies in digitizing their contents and monitoring the revenues to be generated from such arrangements.
“The internet has changed how journalism was practiced. The future is all about digitization,” Mr Asante indicated.
