Your display of nonsense should stop – Afia Pokuaa warns NDC, NPP

Image
Broadcast Journalist, Afia Pokuaa known popularly as Vim Lady has asked Ghanaian Politicians especially members of the two major political parties to stop displaying their nonsense because ‘we are one people’. Over the weekend, there were arguments along tribal lines because according to the Minority in Parliament and the NDC, the government had deployed soldiers to the Volta region to intimidate people and prevent them from registering for the new voters’ register. Reacting to the alleged divisions sparked as a result, Afia Pokuaa noted that the two political parties have an agenda to divide the people of Ghana but their nonsense won’t be accepted. According to her, Ghanaians do not care about what they do but they feel the repercussions so Ghanaians will not sit aloof and allow them to display their nonsense when their families are living their best of lives abroad. “Our mothers who work at the Agbogbloshie Market and Asafo Markets and they only get monies to feed themselves and...

Politicians will take us for granted if we accept their ‘bentua’ and ‘bicycle’ gifts – Okyeame Kwame

Image
Ghanaian musician, Kwame Nsiah-Apau known by his stage name Okyeame Kwame has advised voters to ask politicians critical questions that bother on development during the campaign period in the lead up to election 2020. Okyeame Kwame nicknamed Rap Doctor revealed that the practice whereby people are given rice, bicycles and t-shirts for votes has outlived its usefulness and  therefore entreats voters to be  discerning enough to avoid politicians taking the populace for granted. Okyeame Kwame speaking in an exclusive virtual interview with Cape Coast’s finest radio personality, Amansan Krakye on GBC Radio Central monitored by MyNewsGh.com ,  advised voters to consider the track record of politicians before they cast their votes for them. He disclosed “This year we are in an election year so please whenever people come to you to campaign, don’t take rice and bicycle from them.  “Ask them the plan they have and also ask them how many trees they’ve planted. Also ask t...

Auditor-General can’t be forced to take his leave or forfeit it – Kwaku Azar argues

Image
Legal luminary, Professor Stephen Kwaku Asare widely known as Kwaku Azar has asserted that, legally, the President of Ghana cannot force the Auditor-General to take his leave or refuse to take it, emphasizing that there must be a compelling reason for the Auditor-General to either take or refuse to take his leave in consonance with the Audit Service Act, not the Labour Act. His comments follow a directive from President Akufo-Addo asking the Auditor-General Daniel Yaw Domelevo to proceed on his accumulated leave, citing a similar directive that had been issued by the late former President John Atta Mills as precedence. But Kwaku Azar, the precedence is not persuasive and the resort to the Labour Act as unconvincing. He has therefore urged the President to reconsider the directive, suggesting alternatively that Mr Domelevo must stand his grounds and refuse to obey the directive. Full post here: It is in the interest of the President to protect the independence of the Auditor Gener...

Akufo-Addo speaks on voters’ registration exercise today

Image
The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo will today speak to issues surrounding the new voters’ register Since the Electoral Commission announced its intentions to compile a new voters register, the opposition NDC and other political parties have kicked against it and have organised several demonstrations and press conferences to fight against it. After the above efforts failed, the NDC and other private citizens sued the electoral Commission to help stop the compilation of a new voters register and also to force the electoral commission to accept the usage of the old voters ID card in case there is a registration. However, the NDC lost the case as the supreme court gave the electoral Commission the green light to compile new voters’ register and also not accept the old voters ID card and the birth certificate as a form of identification during the process. This weekend, there were reports of troops been deployed to a border town in the Volta region; a move which has be...

Reject divisive Akufo-Addo for me the ‘father for all’ – Mahama

Image
Flagbearer and Leader of the largest opposition party, the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that he will not discriminate against any tribe or region when voted into power as President on December 7. According to him, he will be a father for all and will not give preferential treatment to regions that voted for him and treat regions that didn’t vote for him with contempt. His comments come on the back of the government’s deployment of troops to a border town in the Volta region ahead of the compilation of a new voters’ register . He said ” a government that will not accept only regions that vote for them as populated by Ghanaians. That is the government I will lead to transform our country into a prosperous one in which all will be treated equally and with respect”. The Former President noted that forbearers of the country built the country in one accord without discrimination based on voting patterns and therefore he will build Ghana...

V/R: Don’t intimidate border dwellers with deployment of soldiers – Rawlings to Gov’t

Image
Ex-President Jerry John Rawlings has waded into the controversy surrounding the deployment of the military to the Volta region ahead of the voter registration exercise calling on government to be tactful on the move. A Press statement by the former President said:” The deployment along the borders at peacetime especially at this particular point in time has created so much suspicion and will call for a lot of intelligent flexibility and diligence.” For him, the Covid-19 restrictions have created enough difficulties for most citizens asking government not to make it worse by what he calls the “overbearing and intimidating behaviour towards our border dwellers whose livelihood solely depend on activities along the border.” Meanwhile, President John Mahama says the deployment of soldiers to the Volta and Oti Regions ahead of the voter’s registration exercise on Tuesday amounts to declaring war on residents of those areas. According to him, any President sanctioning this sort of activ...
